FAQs

Frequently Asked Propane Questions

Whether you are new to propane or have been using it for years, questions come up. We care about keeping our customers informed and safe, so we have gathered answers to some of the most frequently asked propane questions to help make things easy to understand.

  • Why isn’t my tank filled to 100% capacity?

Propane expands as the temperature warms, and because of this natural expansion, tanks are only filled to 80 to 85 percent capacity to allow proper room inside the tank.

  • Can you fill a tank I rent from another company?

No. Under Colorado container law, only the company that owns the tank is allowed to fill that tank. All Pro Gas rental tanks are filled, serviced and maintained by us.

  • What are my payment options?

We have multiple payment options to best suit your needs. You may pay in person at our office or to your driver, online through your account, or over the phone with your favorite CSR. We accept cash, checks and all credit or debit cards. We also offer auto-pay programs so you don’t have to worry about it. All mail payments should be sent to Pro Gas, LLC, PO Box 44, Loma, CO 81524.

  • What are my propane delivery options?

You have two options for propane delivery:

Keep Full: This is our automatic delivery service. We may add a remote monitor to your tank, and we will dispatch and deliver when the tank is between 20 and 30 percent. This is the no-worry option because we keep track of things so you do not have to.

Will Call: You call us when you need a delivery and may choose how much you want delivered, with a 100 gallon minimum. We request that all customers call when the tank is no lower than 20 percent to allow ample delivery time and to help ensure we can deliver in a timely manner without the system running out.

  • What should I do if I think I have a propane leak?

If you think you have a propane leak, immediately leave the area where you smell propane and call your propane provider if it is safe to do so. If you feel there is imminent danger to life or property, call 911 immediately. If you do not feel the leak is life or property threatening but still suspect a problem, proceed with caution because even a small leak can be dangerous. Always consult a professional when dealing with propane leaks. A simple and safe way to confirm whether you have a leak is to have a leak test performed by a qualified technician. Either a certified, licensed plumber or one of our technicians can test your gas system. Charges may apply.

  • Why do I have to pay extra for a leak check when I run out?

A leak check is required under state statute in certain situations as stipulated in NFPA 54 (2021) 8.2.3 "Leak Check. Immediately after the gas is turned on into a new system or into a system that has been initially restored after an interruption of service, the piping system shall be checked for leakage.  Where leakage is indicated, the gas supply shall be shut off until the necessary repairs have been made.  Both new and existing systems are required to have a successful leak check conducted immediately following the introduction of fuel gas as part of new service or an interruption of service.  If a leak is indicated in an existing system during the test and the location cannot be found, gas supply to the system should be shut off until the system can be repaired.  A leak check is not a test intended to find extremely small leaks. Thus a leak check should not detect a very small amount of gas leakage, such as the amount allowed by the standard for gas valves incorporated in gas appliances, which is in the range of a few bubbles per hour and is not a safety issue."

This means a leak test must be performed any time a new propane system is installed, any time you begin new propane service or change residence, after an interruption of service for repairs or equipment shut off or disconnect, after a fuel runout, if a leak is suspected, or if service has been suspended due to an unpaid balance. If any of these situations apply, a leak or pressure test performed by a licensed, qualified professional is required before a propane delivery can be made.

Additional fees may apply based on the time the call is received and when we can schedule the leak check.

  • Do you offer any contract options?

Yes. We offer both Pre Buy and Budget contracts. Our contract period is open each year in July and August. Please call the office for more information or to have a contract letter sent to you. Budget contracts are available after you have been a customer for two years.

  • How do I access my online account?

You have several options. You can download our company app, Pro Gas 1001, or you can navigate through our website by clicking on “My Account” in the upper right corner. You will need your customer ID and your account number to register your account for the first time. Your customer ID and Account number can be found on all delivery tickets, invoices, and statements- or you can call the office to get that information.

  • What if I forgot my password to my online account?

If you have forgotten your password, you are not alone, and resetting it is a simple process. Navigate to the Online Portal and click “Forgot Password.” You will need your customer ID, which is listed on all delivery tickets, invoices and statements. You will then be asked to select or provide an email address where a temporary password can be sent.

  • If I own my own tank, what maintenance is required?

If you own your own tank, it is your responsibility to ensure it is properly maintained. For an above ground tank, this mostly includes keeping the area around the tank clean and maintained and making sure the tank is protected with a good coat of light-colored paint to help reflect heat. For an underground tank, maintenance includes keeping the tank clearly marked, making sure it is not in an area with vehicle traffic and protecting the tank against corrosion and leaks. All propane tanks installed after January 1, 2011 are required to have a cathodic protection system to help prevent corrosion. Over time, this system must be tested to make sure the tank is adequately protected.

  • Why do propane deliveries take 7 to 10 days?

We run delivery routes to keep prices as low as possible for you. To stay efficient and keep costs down, we make sure every gallon on the truck is accounted for and routed in the most efficient way possible.

  • What do I need to do to keep my tank accessible?

Please keep grass and brush cut down so it does not grow up and around your tank, and do not use the area around your tank for storage. In the winter, make sure there are no hazards or debris from the driveway to your tank. This includes shoveling a clear path and ensuring there is nothing the hose could snag on. If the tank is not accessible when we attempt a delivery, a reroute fee may apply.
